Edward M. Kirchofner, the son of John and Anna  (Miller) Kirchofner was born in the rural Pierce County, North Dakota home of  his parents on January 24, 1929.  He died  at the age of 88 years on Tuesday,  January 2, 2018 at the Heart of America  Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota. 
                      
                      Edward was raised in the farm home of his parents  and received his education in a country school near his home.  Being mentally challenged, following school,  he worked on the family farm for almost his entire working years until the  family moved into Rugby.  Edward was a  lifetime member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby and immensely enjoyed  the farm and taking care of the animals.   Following his mother’s death in 1985, he was able to remain in the  family home with the help of his siblings.   Edward moved into the Haaland Estates assisted living facility in  2010.  Due to illness, Edward has made  his home at the Heart of America Care Center for the past three months. 
                      
                    Survivors include his  sister, Betty Kraft of Karlsruhe; sister-in-law, Bernice Kirchofner of Rugby;  many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; five  brothers, Jacob, Walter, Sebastian, John Jr. and Roy; three sisters, Josephine  Geisinger, Lena Nygaard and Cecilia Clark.   
                    Mass of Christian Burial was held on  Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Haaland Estates Chapel in Rugby.  Father Tom Graner was the, Celebrant. Spring  burial will be in the Little Flower Cemetery, Rugby.    
                    Visitation was held for one hour prior to the time of the service.     |
