Kenneth Eugene Axtman passed away Wednesday,  July 8, 2015 at his home near Baker, ND from natural causes. He was born to  Jacob and Rose (Grad) on March 11, 1938 in Twin Lake Township, Rural Knox,  ND.  He was raised in Broe Township and  graduated from Fillmore High School in 1956. Kenneth married Vickie (Grossman)  on July 3, 1961 in Esmond, North Dakota. Over their last 54 years together,  they raised their five sons on their second generation farm in Benson County.  
                      
                      Kenneth worked at Blesener Automobile for a  period of time in Minot. He also worked for Nodak Mutual as a crop adjuster in  the 90’s.  Throughout his life, he was  first and foremost a farmer and rancher. Kenneth took great pride in working with  his son, Terry, in the farming and cattle operation until Terry’s passing in  2008.  He also took pleasure in using his  creative welding ability to provide projects around the community building  unique cemetery gates. 
                      
                      Over the years, he was a member of the St.  Boniface Catholic Church; the Esmond School Board, serving as President; the  Broe Township Board for 34 years, also serving as Chair; the Benson County  Farmer’s Union Board; and the Forth Degree Knights of Columbus.  
                      Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family  and two pets – Dottie and Freddy.    Kenneth was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by many for his  many acts of kindness and generosity. 
                      He was preceded in death by his parents; son,  Terry; and sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Larry & Sheila Kokkeler.  
                      Kenneth is survived by his wife Vickie; sons,  Steve (Janet) Axtman,  Charlotte, NC;  Kenny (Deneen), Fargo, ND; Tim Axtman, Minot, ND; and Kevin Axtman, Esmond, ND.  Grandchildren include the following: Tanner, Astrid, Linnea, Taiton, Elsa, Alex  and Brady Axtman.  
                      Mass of Christian  Burial will be held at  10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with burial in the church  cemetery.  Father Brian Bachmeier,  Celebrant. 
                      Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the  church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services on  Saturday.   
                    Rosary and vigil  prayer service will begin at 7:00  p.m. on Friday at the church.    |
