Larry Owen Anderson, the sixth and last child of Martin Melian Anderson and Helen Louise (Connors) Anderson, was born May 29, 1927, in a log cabin in rural Kennedy, MN. At the age of three, Larry's family lost their father to a sudden illness, then in turn lost the family farm. In the mid1930’s, the family moved to nearby Hallock, MN, where he finished growing up during the Great Depression. Larry was an energetic, inquisitive, quick witted child. Naturally athletic, he enjoyed baseball but excelled in ice hockey which he played in high school and at St. Cloud State Teachers College now known as St. Cloud State University. Larry joined the U.S. Navy at 17-years of age. He served in the Amphibians in the Philippines and Pearl Harbor.  During the 1950s, Larry lived in Minneapolis MN with brothers, John and Dennis, where they sold books and vacuum cleaners door-to-door. He attended a telegrapher's school and learned Morse Code. He took a job with Great Northern Railway and spent 20 years as a telegrapher and agent.

Larry met the love of his life, Virginia Margaret Petron, a high school teacher in Stanley, ND. They married on November 22, 1952 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Stanley, where they began their family.  Larry's work on the railroad took him, Virginia and their growing family to Tioga, Guthrie, Drake and Willow City. In Willow City he picked up a secondary job working as the Pioneer State Bank branch manager and as an insurance agent. In 1969 the family moved to Towner ND and he began his second career, with Pioneer State Bank.
Having grown up in poverty, Larry showed great compassion for others in need. He was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic parish, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a few selected civic organizations. He was decidedly a good neighbor, citizen and friend to those around him.  He received the last Sacraments of the Church and enjoyed the special time with each of his seven children and many grandchildren before his passing.  Larry died peacefully at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, ND on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the age of 90 after a year of battling the residual effects of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.
