Victor Buchta

Victor Buchta, the son of Andrew and Mary (Parolek) Buchta was born on September 7, 1914 on the family farm near Harlow, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 101 years on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Victor was raised on the family farm and was educated in the Harlow area with his three brothers and six sisters.  After completing his education, he started his farming career doing custom combing in Oklahoma and worked his way north back to North Dakota.  On March 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Clara Freehauh in Valley City, North Dakota.  The couple made their home on his family farm in the Harlow area and farmed until retirement in 1975.  They then moved and made their home in Rugby.  Victor worked and volunteered countless hours with the Prairie Village Museum for 12 years.  Clara died in 2005.  He has called the Haaland Estates home for over 10 years.  He loved his career in farming and had his own thrashing outfit and did custom thrashing in his later years.  He went for a walk every day he could, weather permitting.  When he couldn’t get out to walk, he had a stationary bike he that would hop on.  He enjoyed visiting with everyone, playing cards, hunting and fishing.  He was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Rugby.

Victor is survived by nephews, Donald Buchta of Leeds and Duane (Fern) Buchta of Leeds; several other nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers; a brother who died in infancy; six sisters and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30th at the Haaland Estates Chapel in Rugby with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.  Pastor Sharon Baker, officiating.
