Wendell R Humble

Wendell Royce Humble, the son of Conrad and Alpha (Dunham) Humble was born on April 16, 1933 in Wolford, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 86 years on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Wendell was the middle child of six children.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  On October 5, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Yvonne Winter in a small quaint little ceremony in the home of her parents.  December 15, 1952, he was enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Charles S. Sperry DD 697.  He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1956.  Wendell and Margie moved from Norfolk, Virginia to Rolette, North Dakota.  He started working for R & O Contractors as an apprentice plumber receiving his license in 1963.  In 1960, he loaded up the family and moved to the Wolford area, continuing working in the plumbing field and helping his father-in-law with his farming.  After a near fatal accident falling from a 25 foot scaffold in 1973, he decided to quit plumbing and go into farming fulltime.  Wendell and Marjorie dissolved their marriage in 1983 and Wendell remained on the farm until his retirement.  He had a great love for his children, he would build miniature farms, with barns, quonsets, and all the John Deere equipment.  He built a replica of a train set of the ho train set.  He loved wood working, snowmobiling and tinkering on old cars, boating, fishing and camping.

Wendell is survived by his children, Connie (Dave) Mattson of Belgrade, MT, Danny (Sharon) of Wahpeton, Randy (Geneva) of Bismarck, Corey (Katie) of Towner, Benny of Wolford, Alyson (Lyman) of Wolford and Audrey (George) Milligan of Cody, WY; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister, Lynda Clark of Toledo, OR; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Laverne, Ronald, Johnny Darlene; grandchildren and other relatives.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Wolford Lutheran Church in Wolford with burial in the Wolford Community Cemetery military honors.  Wally Fretland, officiating.

Military Honors accorded by The Dethman-Armstrong American Legion Post #194, Rolette, ND and the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors
